Thunderbolts now 8-1 with twin wins

The South Washington Thunderbolts started slowly but finished fast in an 11-5 victory over Lakeville/Burnsville/Farmington Wednesday in adapted floor hockey at Park.

The Thunderbolts led 1-0 after one period and the game with tied at 3-3 after two. But South Washington Country dominated the third, outscoring the visitors 8-2 to earn the win.

It was the Thunderbolts seventh straight win this season following an opening game loss.

“Well, we started a little slow in the game and then things started picking up,” said Thunderbolts head coach Jeff Figlmiller. “I thought passing was done really well, defense picked up really well. coming out to the sewer a bit little more. Getting it out of our zone. I mean we had problems that first period trying to keep it out of our zone. They were down in our area the whole time. It’s really hard to get goals at the end of the floor. That went really good. Everybody talking to each other. Everybody got to play tonight too so I was super happy about that.’

“(In the third we) got our passing down,” Figlmiller continued. “Got our passing down and found a way to break that zone past the half court. I mean that was huge for us. Getting down to the other end. I kept telling the kids we’ve got to get it to the other end. Less goals on our end, more goals on their end, that’s what we want. So that’s what we ended up doing.”

Jordan Nde scored all four of his goals in the third period and Logan Curtis punched in three of his five to lead the Thunderbolts. Keira Walker also scored for South Washington in the third.

“I think in the first half we were fully energized and we were able to keep them down, but in the second period we were very tired and I just wasn’t able to defend as much,” said Nde. “But in the third period when I had my energy back, me and Logan were so, we wanted to win. We did not want to lose this so we just played as hard as we can, we tried different strategies and we just played as hard as we could.

“I feel like in the third period, I think our passing and shooting was really good.” Nde added. “And I think it was rebounds that saved us.”

“Tonight, we play floor hockey, it was good game tonight, said Park student Kalabe Tobe. “I assist to Logan and Jordan. I pass it to Logan and Jordan. I shot good though. It was good game though.”

South Washington (8-1) hosts Dakota United (2-6) Monday in the regular-season finale, starting at 4:30 p.m.
