Thunderbolts start adapted soccer 2-0

South Washington County took down visiting Lakeville/Burnsville/Farmington Monday with a 4-0 victory at East Ridge High School.

The win was the second straight for the Thunderbolts, which opened the season Thursday at home with an 8-2 win over visiting and defending state champion Dakota United.

South Washington County returns all but three players from last year’s state tournament team, but that includes starting goalie Logan Yannarelly, an all-tournament selection.

“This year’s team we’ve got eight seniors, and a lot of them have been working hard to get us built up, to where we are now, but we should have a pretty good season,” said Thunderbolts coach Jeff Figlmiller. “I mean we’ve got a lot of guys back. Our goalie from last year graduated so we’ve got a new goalie in there (Asher Lange), a ninth grader and he’s been doing really well. He had 19 saves the first game, 24 the second so he’s doing a really good job for us right now and he had a shutout too for tonight so that was good.

“Overall, I think we’re pretty strong,” Figlmiller continued. “Defense is really good. Offense we’ve got some that just go and go and go. Jordan Nde is back and he’s all over the court. He’s great. Logan Curtis he’s been around for a while. He can do center and he can also do wing and pay back on D. We’ve got that and then a solid defense in the back. So overall it’s looking really good. Passing needs a lot of work right now but we’re getting there.”

The Thunderbolts host Saint Paul Johnson Monday, starting at 4:30 p.m. Then its five straight road games.
