LETTER to the Editor
Rent increase in complex devoted to senior living
To the editor: A meeting will be held on Thursday, June 2, 11 AM at The Legends of Cottage Grove. The meeting will be attended by local, state and national office holders. The topic of the meeting will concern the 12 1/5 percent increase in the rent at a complex devoted to senior living. The Legends of Cottage Grove is owned by Dominium Company and falls under the IRS Section 42. Section 42 allows a developer to provide rental properties to seniors and receives a tax discount making the rent cost reasonable. The increase is egregious and the residents are looking for help in reducing the increase. Many live on Social Security benefits and savings. We do not want to live in an empty refrigerator box under some viaduct. Gary Spooner Cottage Grove
