Track teams lose some stars, but more return

Park High track and field has a new head boys coach in Nina Horvath and will be missing some top performers from a year ago, but the Wolfpack also return several top athletes along with eager newcomers ready to make their marks.

Headlining the returners are state competitors Aidan Boche in the discus, high jump ace O’Neal Attisso, several top boys distance runners and middle distance ace Malaya Ramirez.

Missing from this year’s team are Rainna Jameson, school record holder in the high jump (5-8) and second at state last season, top thrower Zoey Bammert-Mueller, middle distance ace Dominic Jenkins and jumpers Hazim King and Bryan Wright.

Park’s boys team finished eighth and the girls ninth in the section meet last season and both teams will be looking to move up in the standings this spring.

Park girls

Top returners for the Park girls include sophomore middle distance runner Malaya Ramirez, sprinter Kylee Nickle, distance runners Jana Hafiz and Alli Devine and thrower Pajyeeb Kong.

In last season’s section meet, Madeline Finstad was 18th in the 100 (13.43). Kylee Nickle ninth in the 200 (28.11). Kalin Randrup was 16th in the 400 (1:05.12).

Ramirez finished fifth in the 800 (2:35.64). Jana Hafiz was 16th (13:17.54) and Alli Devine 18th (14:21.68) in the 3,200-meter run. Sharon Oni was 14th in the 300-meter hurdles (55.75). Pajyeeb Kong was 12th in the shot put (31-10.25) and 15th in the discus (82-09).

“We have a lot of young girls and we have a lot of young talented athletes so I would say off the top of my head, really strong in the mid distance,” said head girls coach Ashley Acosta-Meyers.

Sophomore Ramirez is expected to be even faster this season and will compete in anything from the 200 to the 800.

“From the first time I saw her run I knew that she was going to be something special,” said Acosta-Meyers. “So ended the year making finals in the 800 which is not easy to do in our section. ... For someone who just kind of jumped in and was like, sure I’ll try an 800, that’s phenomenal.”

Esme Edlund is another strong 800 runner. “I think she also is going to have a great season,” said Acosta-Meyers.

Park sprinters Elizabeth Kamande and Mallorie Yang, thrower Pajyeeb Kong and distance runners Jana Hafiz and Alli Devine are others to keep an eye on this season.

“I’m excited to see what our ninth and tenth grade girls can accomplish, said Acosta-Meyers. “We have a lot of raw talent, and a willingness to learn.

Park boys

Junior high jumper O’Neal Attisso, thrower Aidan Boche, jumper Daniel Boesch and Kalab Miftah and distance runners Henry Joa, Eli Firchau and Benjamin Paulsen all return to anchor the Park boys' team.

Boche was the section champion in the discus last season, throwing 149-07, and placed 22nd at state as a junior. Boche is a rarity as he’s missed the first weeks of track practice while being in the Park musical.

Attisso was 13th in the boys' high jump at state last spring. He’ll be aiming to PR in the high jump and also runs sprints for the Wolfpack.

“He looks stronger than ever,” Acosta-Meyers said of Attisso. “Last year he had a heck of a season when he was healthy and found his way in the high jump.”

Senior sprinter Jayveon Wade is another Park athlete to watch this spring. “In the time trials he looked fantastic,” said Acosta-Meyers. “He looked strong, he looked confident.”

Junior Kroix Pearson in the middle distances should be primed for a good season. In the SEC meet last season Pearson ran a 52.48 to teammate Dominic Jenkins’s 52.16, finishing eighth.

In the 2025 section meet, Eli Firchau was fifth in the 1,600 (4:34.35), Henry Joa eighth (4:35.26) and Bejamin Paulsen 14th (4:28.55). Firchau was also ninth in the 3,200-meter run (9:58.99) and Joa 12th (10:07.00). The distance crew should be a strength of this year’s team.

Kalab Miftah finished fifth in the triple jump (41-07.50), Attisso was eighth (40-00) and Bryan Wright ninth (39-11). Wright finished seventh in the long jump at 19-11.0 and Attisso was 13th at 19-01.00.

Park opens the 2026 season Friday at the University of River Falls High School Classic, then competes Thursday, April 9 in the Knights Under the Lights meet at Irondale. Park’s first home meet is the Maher Invite on April 30.
