Just two varsity players are returning for the Park Wolfpack golf team this spring, senior Cam Forys and sophomore Charlie Looker. The rest of the team will be made up of players coming up from the junior varsity and newcomers to the squad.
Looker is likely the No. 1 golfer for the Wolfpack, said head coach Jay Moser with Forys the likely No. 2 on the varsity.
“Charlie looker is probably our no. 1,” said Moser. “He can shoot in the low 70s. Cam will be our No. 2 probably. He can get in the 70s and be a solid No. 2. After that it’s going to be tough. There will kind of be a battle for the remaining four spots. We’ve got a bunch of guys all in the same boat. There’s five or six guys who will compete for the last few spots.”
It hasn’t helped the unexperienced Wolfpack golfers that they’ve been unable to get outside to practice during the pre-season. Hopefully that changes this week.
Despite the team’s lack of experience, Moser thinks the Wolfpack can have a good season.
“I think we’ll be competitive within our conference,” Moser said. “A lot of the teams are in the same boat as us.”
With the wintry weather and wet courses having wiped out the first weeks of the season, the Wolfpack are tentatively scheduled to tee off the campaign in a 19-team invitation at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Hudson on Wednesday, April 19, starting at 9 a.m.
