Park fell to 0-3 in home games to start the 2025-26 season, falling to visiting Woodbury 64-52 in Suburban East Conference girls' basketball Friday. The loss capped a tough week for the Wolfpack who also dropped home decisions to Cretin-Derham Hall and Eagan.
Park more or less hung even with the Royals in most areas but couldn’t match Woodbury’s outside shooting. The Royals drained 10 3-point field goals – good for 30 points.
Woodbury 64, Park 52
Park’s offense was much stronger Friday than earlier in the week, but the visiting Royals was just a bit better as Woodbury took a 12-point win.
Olivia Czarnota had a strong offensive game, leading the Wolfpack with 23 points, including four 3-point field goals. Mariah Nasby added a dozen points and Raimee Ashfaq scored 8.
Woodbury led 28-21 at the half Friday. Park hung in with the Royals and challenged several times in the second half, closing to 31-27 with 16:10 to play but the Royals went on a 10-0 run to take a 41-27 lead and kept that edge the rest of the way. The game was still within reach at 52-40 with 7:02 to go, but Park could come no closer.
Eagan 49, Park 28
For the second straight game, Park found putting the ball in the basket challenging as the Wolfpack dropped a 49-28 decision to visiting Eagan in a non-conference clash Thursday at home.
Graycie Smith’s 13 points led the Wolfpack, but she was the only Park player to score in double figures. Tea Alvarenga had 5 points and Ramsey Nelson 4.
Cretin-Derham Hall 48, Park 37
Park battled a talented Cretin-Derham Hall team but never quite could slow down the Raiders and dropped a 48-37 decision Tuesday in SEC girls' basketball.
The Wolfpack started cold offensively and warmed up only in spurts Tuesday.
Cretin led 32-19 at the half. The Wolfpack actually won the second half, 18-16, but could never quite come back from the early deficit.
“We’re just kind of taking away our positives,” said head coach Stephanie Tolkinen after the Cretin-Durham Hall game. “We’re really talking about what are the games within the game that we’re trying to win and tonight the emphasis in practice the last few days has really been about boxing out, rebounding, not giving up so many offensive rebounds and we knew they had some big girls and they really crashed the boards well. And I thought we did a pretty good job tonight.
“There were a few times when they did get some o-boards but they didn’t get a lot of points off of their offensive rebounds,” Tolkinen continued. “I was really happy with the way our girls were intentional about boxing out and getting those rebounds. I think we talked about that we started out with some really good energy, moving the ball very well. We were in the game the whole time. It looked like it was getting away from us and then we battled back and we were within 11 points here with a few minutes left in the game. It’s just getting these kids to kind of understand where they’re at and believe that they have a chance.”
None of the Park players scored in double figures. Olivia Czarnota and Tea Alvarenga led the Wolfpack with nine points each. Mariah Nasby and Graycie Smith had six apiece.
Park (1-3, 0-2) hosts Apple Valley (1-4) in a non-conference matchup Thursday, then plays at Roseville (4-1, 1-1) Friday.
