Black smoke was visible over 70th Street South on Wednesday, March 19, as an afternoon home fire drew multiple departments to the 7000 block of Jenner Bay South, located off 70th Street in Cottage Grove.
Listed to the Benson Rev Living Trust on Washington County GIS, the single family, two story home on Jenner Bay South was built in 1990 as part of the Pinetree Pond East 7th Addition, with two occupants transferred to Regions Hospital for burn and smoke inhalation injuries.
“We responded to a structure fire at 7070 Jenner Bay South at 4:38 p.m.,” said Cottage Grove Deputy Fire Chief Peter Fischer. “The first arriving fire unit was on scene two minutes later and confirmed a working structure fire on the first floor of a single family home. A hose line was stretched for fire attack and simultaneous search and rescue was performed by fire crews. Two occupants were home at the time, they were able to get out prior to our arrival, but suffered burn and smoke inhalation injuries and were transported to Regions hospital for additional care. The fire was brought under control in about 20 minutes, contained to the first floor, and extensive overhaul was performed to ensure all hot spots were extinguished. Both occupants are still in the hospital recovering from their injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation. We were assisted by the Cottage Grove Police Department, Woodbury Fire Department, Newport Fire Department, Saint Paul Park Fire Department, Lake Elmo Fire Department, M Health EMS, and the Washington County Sheriff's Department.”
