Park got the 2026 girls flag football season off on a high note Sunday, hammering Woodbury 47-19 in the opener, then rallying to clip host Hastings 27-25 at Todd Field to start the season 2-0.

“We came ready to play in the opener,” said Park head coach Scott Leonard.  “Both our quarterbacks played well and our defense was sound.”

The Wolfpack trailed host Hastings 25-6 in the second game but came back to win it on an 11-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Alayna Adamez to wide out Maleah McMorrow with five seconds to play.

“We fell behind 25-6, they had us a little off balanced early on defense,” said Leonard. “We made a few adjustments to personnel and stopped them from there. We were then able to knock down Hastings last pass to secure the win.”

It was a successful start to the new season, following a banner year last spring, Park went 12-1 overall, including 10-0 in the regular season in 2025, took the district title and then won the first two games at state before falling. Park topped Sartell 38-6 in the first round at state, defeated Minnetonka 40-25 in the quarterfinals, then fell to eventual state champion Mahtomedi 32-0 in the semifinals.

Park returns several key players off that team, notably all-district quarterback Adamez, but lost a ton of talent in players like Madi Brinkman, Josie Leonard, Lauen Osland and Kyra Stoffer.

In addition to Adamez, the Wolfpack return wide receiver/safety Maleah McMorrow, linebacker/strong safety Abby Schmitzer, cornerbacks Paige Stewart and Aliyah Jarmon and quarterback/safety Pajyeeb Kong.

“We have a good mix coming back,” said Leonard. “We have an overall deep roster. But we lost some high-end talent.

“We have good balance returning on both sides of the ball but some big shoes to fill at receiver,” Leonard continued. “Defensively we have three returning standouts. We have a lot of experience on defense, and it should be ahead of the offense early on.”

Hastings rolled East Ridge 37-0 in another game Sunday.

It’s a relatively short season this spring with just four double headers scheduled and just two regular-season home games. Joining Park in District 13 Gold are Woodbury, East Ridge and Hastings. In the other half of the district are Tartan, North St. Paul, Blaine and Hill-Murray. And unlike last year when two teams went to state, this year just the district champ advances. Park hosts East Ridge and Woodbury Sunday, with games at 4 and 5 p.m.
