Boys soccer team looks to move up in SEC

Park went 6-8-3 overall last season in boys soccer, including finishing 3-4 in the always rugged Suburban East Conference.

And while the Wolfpack lost some good players, several experienced varsity athletes are back to lead Park this fall

“This soccer season I think is really going to be good,” said Andrew Bourgoine, Park boys' soccer head coach. “We will be pretty senior heavy but not a lot of varsity experience with some of them. My realistic goal for this team is at least section final and get into the top four of the Suburban East Conference.

I think our section is going to be good again like it always is,” Bourgoine continued. “Eastview and Eagan I think should be the competition. For conference it’s going to be same three teams at the top with Stillwater, Woodbury and East Ridge, but I’m hoping this year we can compete with them.

Park returns two all-conference players and one all-conference honorable mention.

The Wolfpack captains will be seniors Declan Randles, Devan Yang, JJ Sanchez and Chance Vang.

Sanchez was one of the team’s top scorers last fall, along with the departed senior Terry Espinonza-Garcia.

“We have a couple of really good young players coming in, Bourgoine noted in sophomore forward Anthony Escobedo and freshman forward Keanu Lee.

The Wolfpack stood 6-6-1 with four games to go a year ago but had two ties against East Ridge and Forest Lake followed by two defeats to end the season, including a 2-0 loss at Eastview in the Class 3A, Section 3 quarterfinals.

Park opens the season with a boy-girl doubleheader, hosting Bloomington Jefferson Thursday. The boys kick off the season at 5 p.m. followed by the girls match at 7 p.m.

Jefferson and Park also played in last season’s opener, won 2-0 by Jefferson.
