Park’s Wolfpack got season No. 2 off to a solid start Tuesday, sweeping visiting Apple Valley in three games in the season opener.

The Wolfpack won 25-19, 25-21 and 25-14.

Park got big hits across the front line and especially from senior Owen Griswold in the middle, as well as strong defensive play across the lineup.

“I think we had very good energy, our energy was really good tonight, and personally I think I had some pretty good hits,” said Griswold. “Me and Davion were connecting pretty well. Something we need to work on is just a little more communication. There’s some new players to the team and not everyone knows each other that well and just knowing our flaws and knowing how to work together as a team is really important. I think we’ll get that down during the season and I think we’ll be pretty good.

“Our goal is to go to state,” said senior Davion Ntuyen. “I fully believe that this team that we have can make it to state. I think we can beat all the great teams. We can be a great team and I think we can go to state.”

“Something I thought we did well was keeping momentum on our side,” said head coach Robert Lozinski-McLean. “We talk a lot about how volleyball has peaks and valleys. I thought tonight we rode those peaks pretty well. But on the other hand, I thought sometimes we got stuck in a valley a little too long. So that’s definitely to be something that we can work on. Making a mistake and then turning right back around and jumping back into the game.

“Skill wise I need them to not be so much on their heels on defense, making sure they stay up on their toes,” Lozinski-McLean continued. “Their first step is forward rather than that baby step that pushes them back. Really make sure their defense moves quicker.”

Rosemount 3, Park 1

After a season-opening win Tuesday, the Wolfpack came back down-to-earth Thursday, dropping a four-game decision to visiting Rosemount.

Park won the first set 25-22, but the Irish (2-0) won the next three, 25-19, 25-21 and 25-9.

Park (1-1) plays at Lakeville South (0-1) Wednesday, then opens Suburban East Conference play at Woodbury (1-1) on Tuesday, April 14, both games with 7 p.m. starts.
