COVID-19 cases
With 743 cases, Cottage Grove has the second highest tally of COVID-19 cases in Washington County.
Only Woodbury, with double that total – 1,526 cases – has had more COVID-19 cases reported.
West Lakeland Township has had just 10 on the other end of the spectrum.
Newport has had 101 reported cases, while St. Paul Park has had 138.
Overall, in Washington County, as of Oct. 23, there have been 5,473 total cases. Of those cases, 326 patients have required hospitalization, with 90 of those being in intensive care. There have been 70 deaths related to COVID-19 in the county, and the median age of the deceased is 83.
Nearly half of those who contacted the virus reported it was from the community: 24.4 percent were known contacts and 23.6 were unknown community contacts, whaler 13 percent picked up COVID-19 from travel. Long term care/assisted living/group home cases made up 9.4 percent of the likely exposures, while 5.8 percent were from other congregate living settings. Community outbreak was reported in 4.4 percent of the cases, while 3.7 percent were in healthcare settings. No data was available for 15.7 percent of the cases.
Patients contracting the virus lived in private residences for 76 percent of the cases and a congregate setting for 9.1 percent of cases in Washington County. The cases were split fairly evenly in the county between female and male, with females making up 50.8 percent of the cases and males 48.8. The age breakdown is as follows: 19-34 years old: 31% 35-49: 22.9% 50-64: 20.5% 5-18: 13.3% 65+: 10.7% 0-4: 1.6% The median age is 37.
In the last month, there have been 1,815 new COVID-19 cases reported in Washington County. There were 531 cases reported in the county from Oct. 16-23.
