Wins elusive for Park soccer teams

Park’s rugged stretch continued at Simley Saturday as the Wolfpack girls soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at Inver Grove Heights. It was Park’s fifth straight loss, three of the games by 1-0 scores.

Park is now 4-7 on the season and 0-5 in the Suburban East Conference.

On Thursday the host Wolfpack dropped a 3-1 decision to visiting White Bear Lake. Kenzie Harer scored for Park in the second half, recording her eighth goal of the season.

“I thought our girls played really hard until the very end,” said co-head coach Stacy Paleen. “We had a couple girls go down with injury and so we had girls step up and play and play positions, or play, who don’t normally get a lot of playing time. I thought they did a great job.

“We had two really good halves, better second half. We just keep fighting and trying to get better,” Paleen added. “I think we’re just looking at each game as getting better as we get ready for section play.”

It was a rugged game for both teams. Players on both sides freely mixed it up. Park starting goalie Shelby Hansen got knocked out for a stretch with a thumb injury on a save and was also kicked in the face. She was replaced by Megan Maloney but returned during the second half.

“It’s always an aggressive, physical game against White Bear Lake,” noted Paleen. “But I thought our girls did very well mostly holding their composure and continuing to play hard. ”

Park fell 3-0 in a game at Woodbury Tuesday.
