This one was over early as Park dominated the action both on offense and defense in an 8-0 win over visiting Eagan Thursday.
Park led 6-0 after one period, then added two more goals in the third to call it a night.
“This is probably the best game we’ve played in terms of bringing the practice, the things we’re working on in practice, into a game,” said Park head coach Jeff Corkish. “So, it’s just the details of our concepts and our system that we’re getting better at so our team is just more connected than we’ve been in the past. It takes time to get young guys who have never played varsity before to get on the same page as guys who have been playing for three years. That’s where you end up with a lot of holes and disconnect.
“And now with a little more practice time and good detailed practices and guys kind of got a base built you can move a little bit more as a group and whether it’s our neutral zone attack or this week we’re working really hard on our forecheck and our reloaded and getting back up on top of the puck and all our guys are starting to understand,” Corkish added. “They’re starting to understand what we want to do. When they start to figure out mentally how to play the game we’ll start to play faster and play more as a team and it showed today.”
Seven different players scored for the Wolfpack, led by senior forward Max Kaplan’s two goals. Also putting the puck in the back of the net were Luke Dahlstrom, Brady Siemer, Owen Corkish, Drew Schumacher, Gavin Moss and Nick Bailey.
“We forechecked well, neutral zone was well, the back checking -- all around it was a good game, said Siemer. “It brings momentum for the next game forward.”
Corkish added four assists and Moss had three for Park. Siemer and Eli Daly recorded two assists each, Caden Schwartz, Jack Kennedy, Bailey and Voss one each.
Junior goalie Hank Voss earned the shutout win in goal for the Wolfpack. Voss stopped 20 of 20 shots for a perfect night’s work.
“I know it went well but mainly my defense; a lot of shots were on the perimeter. They did a good job of keeping the rebounds, keeping them out of the house. They (the Park defense) made my job easy, which I like,” said Voss. “They worked hard the whole game; they were communicating, and they bailed me out a few times which was nice.”
It was Park’s second straight win after a hard loss to Stillwater and matched the Wolfpack’s biggest scoring margin of victory this season, tying a 9-1 win over Hastings.
Park improved to 4-2 overall. Eagan slipped to 1-8 on the season.
