Wolfpack boys off to a racing 2-0 start

The opening two games of the 2025-26 season couldn’t have gone much better for Park as the Wolfpack routed both Brooklyn Center and St. Paul Como Park in two games at Cottage Grove.

With a much different vibe than last year’s Park team, the Wolfpack got the season off to a rousing start Wednesday with a 75-39 win over the visiting Brooklyn Center Centaurs. Then on Friday the Wolfpack looked fast and strong again in an 82-61 triumph over Como Park.

Park head coach Isaiah Wallfred said he was most pleased with his team’s effort Friday.

“(We’re) competing, we’re getting after it, we’re guarding and it’s all 10 guys,” said Wallfred. “We’re really getting after it. Everyone is buying in. So, I’m just excited about the effort.

It’s a different looking Park tea, this season.

“We’re a lot deeper,” said Wallfred. “We’ve got guys that totally bought in, that are committed to playing hard, committed to really defending. I thought our defense could have been better tonight. I thought we gave up too many points, but they played hard and everyone plays unselfish. They play together and we have eight guys that can score 10 to 15 points.”

Park had four players in double figures Friday against Como Park, taking charge early and keeping their feet on the gas the entire game. Park led 41-30 at the half and then outscored Como Park 42-32 after intermission.

Senior guard Brandon Bihm led Park with 17 points.

“We all just play as a team and we’re all putting in effort,” said Bihm. “We’re just going 100 percent all the time and we have trust in our teammates and so like on help defense we know that they’re going to be there.”

Aaron Sandin scored 16, Caleb Sweet had 15 and Griffin Sell 11. Sandin had an all-around strong game with 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 3 deflections to go with his 16 points.

“I thought we did a good job of hustling and beating the transition, getting a lot of easy layups and making good passes,” said Sweet. “I think we really need to work on our defense, sometimes we’re reaching or fouling them when they’re shooting a bad shot and bailing them out.”

The Wolfpack shot 42.5 percent from the field but just 62.5 from the line. Park had 30 points off of turnovers and 28 points in transition as the running game clicked all night long. The Wolfpack outrebounded the visitors 45-38, had more assists 11-8, more steals, 18-9 and more blocks 3-0.

“I thought we played well as a team, we attacked the basket real good, we got fouls, I thought we played better offense this game than we did the first one,” said senior guard Peyton Faber. “We should have won that game by more than we did.”

The competition hasn’t been as good, but it’s a much better start for the Wolfpack than a year ago when Park went 1-3 in its first three games.

Park (2-0) hosts Roseville (1-1) Friday in a Suburban East Conference clash, starting at 7 p.m.
