A frustrating 2024 season came to an end Tuesday at Hastings for the Park girls' soccer team.
Fourth-seeded Hastings edged fifth-seeded Park 2-1 in a Section 3A quarterfinal Tuesday evening.
Park scored first on a goal by junior attacker Lila Krumrie just 3:17 into the game and led 1-0 at the half. But Hastings punched in a pair of goals after intermission to take the win and advance to the section semifinals.
“We, I think, had possession in their end for 30 of the 40 minutes of that first half after that,” said Park co-head coach Stacy Paleen. “So, it was great energy. We knew they'd (the Raiders) come back hard second half. It's what they did, you know, last time we played them. And yeah, they're a very good team, very fast attackers who like to shoot the ball.
“So, we're pretty young, so we're really excited about the future we have,” Paleen added. “We only had five seniors on that section roster, so the future is bright, and so we're just going to keep building. I’m super proud to be their coach. I'll be their coach 100 percent of the time. I thought they, both teams, played really well, really classy tonight. We've lost some games in the past where it's not even fun to play because the other team is so nasty. But Hastings is a really good program, really classy team. And just told them, hold their heads up high. They played a great game. I like to keep it positive; you know.”
Hastings outshot the Wolfpack 15-11.
Park ended the season with a 4-9-4 record. The Wolfpack had trouble scoring all season, totaling just 27 goals in 17 games, and 15 of those goals came in two games against Burnsville (0-16) and Irondale (3-13-1).
Other quarterfinal winners were top-seeded Eagan, which romped 14-0 over eighth-seeded Burnsville, second-seeded Rosemount, which won 7-0 over seventh-seeded Apple Valley and third-seeded Eastview in a 4-0 win over sixth-seeded Bloomington Jefferson.
Top-seeded Eagan topped Hastings 5-2 and second-seeded Rosemount edged Eastview 1-0 in Thursday’s section semifinals to advance to the section championship on Tuesday.
