Every batter in the lineup had at least one hit as the host Wolfpack rapped out 14 hits in a big bounce-back win Friday afternoon, storming past visiting Roseville 13-3 in five innings.
Park senior third baseman Grace Conaway led the hit parade, going 4-for-4 and banging out a leadoff triple in the fifth and three singles for the Wolfpack. Park’s Lauren Osland, Alexis Novak, Briana Lee and Allyson Grobner had two hits each.
Asked what the team needs to do to keep improving as the season winds down, Conaway said:
“I think just keep getting better at the little things every single day,” said Conaway. “Like in practice and games, keep grinding and doing our hardest to get better for each other. I think we’ve definitely improved quite a bit especially since the beginning of the season. We’ve definitely collaborated together and decided these are some of our team values and this is what we want to improve on and we kind of want to stick to our team morals every day.”
Coming in after a 4-0 loss at Stillwater on Wednesday, Park got the bats going in the third inning, scoring six times to take an early 6-0 lead. Roseville answered with three runs in the bottom of the third but that was it for the visiting Raiders.
Park put the game away with seven runs in the fifth inning.
The 13 runs were the most the Wolfpack have scored in a game this season.
Park eighth grade pitcher Mackenzie Darsow gave up just four hits and one walk while striking out three.
“I think we really came together as a team and as a Wolfpack family, you know welcoming some new faces in and getting everyone in. We were just there for everyone and here to have fun,” said senior third baseman Briana Lee. “Our goal is to do that for every game now.”
Asked if there was one thing Park could do better to be more competitive in the big games coming up, Novak said, “Just keeping our energy up the whole time because we kind of start off slow and then we always come back but to keep our energy up the whole time and working together as a team and picking each other up.”
“They played well as a team,” said Park assistant coach Tony Young. “There was a lot of energy, everybody picking each other up. Our defense, we didn’t give away any extra outs, any bases, they had to earn everything that they got. We played a pretty clean game. It was nice to see all the seniors get in, get at bats and be part of this.
The key for the rest of the season is focus, Young said.
“They need to focus in and just be present every single day,” Young explained. “Sometimes – we’re a very young team – and sometimes that shows. When we are focused and dialed in, we’re tough to beat. It’s going to come down to how well we dial it in and pay attention to the details and see what happens from there.”
