Wolfpack soccer team gives up late tie to Rangers

With a seemingly safe 2-0 lead fairly late in the second quarter, Park looked like a winner against the visiting Forest Lake Rangers Thursday night.

But the game turned on the Wolfpack in the final 12 minutes as the Rangers scored twice to head home with a Suburban East Conference tie.

Park still led 2-1 with 10:17 to play but the Rangers knotted the game and neither team could manage a score in the final eight minutes. The Wolfpack also missed a potential game-winning penalty kick near the end of the game.

“I think we learned a lot of things today,” said Park co-head coach Abby Kirsch. “We saw a lot of good play, we scored two goals and now we go into sections and it’s a brand-new season.

“I think we got a little comfortable, maybe a little complacent,” Kirsch added. “We let up on a few little things. That’s going to happen. It’s senior night. I think just focusing on that. We have 13 amazing seniors in our program and to have them every day, whether it’s on the field, on the bench, that’s what its all about. It’s just about them and the scoreboard is the scoreboard.

Junior Mallorie Yang and senior Claire Berling scored for the Wolfpack. Junior Elizabeth Kamande got an assist.

In the net, Ainsley Lucas had three saves against two goals.

Park finished the regular season 3-5-1 in the SEC, finishing sixth, and were 6-7-3 on the season.

Forest Lake went to 0-5-4 and 7-5-4.

The section playoffs are next for the Wolfpack with games on Oct. 13, Thursday in the semifinals and Tuesday in the section finals.
