The Wolfpack grapplers had a pair of triangulars this past week. On Thursday night they squared off against Stillwater and Tartan, Saturday they faced White Bear Lake and Henry Sibley on Senior Day.
The first match on Thursday night was against #2 ranked Stillwater. The Wolfpack came out strong with Gunner Mullen and Zach Silvis leading the charge. Mullen’s had an outstanding season at 106, and currently is ranked 8th in the weight class. Silvis has been equally as impressive at 120 and is ranked 4th in the class. With his major decision win, Mullen notched his 50th varsity win and gave Park the 6-0 lead. After a Stillwater victory, Silvis would earn a tech fall win to increase the Wolfpack lead to 9-3. Deutsch would earn a victory at 132, giving Park their last lead of the match at 15-9. The strong Stillwater lineup then took over and the Ponies won the dual by a 63-15 score.
Mullen, Silvis, and Deutsch again got the Wolfpack out to an early lead over Tartan at 14-10. Tartan would forfeit three matches but win three matches by fall and one by decision to trail 32-31 with only the heavyweight match remaining. Tartan would then win by fall in the last match of the night to pull out a 37-32 win.
On Saturday, the program celebrated senior day dual meet. In the first matchup, the Wolfpack faced out against White Bear Lake. The strength of the team this year has been at the lower weight classes, and they dominated again in this match. After Deutsch pinned his opponent at 132, Park led 22-0. After White Bear closed the gap to 22-10, Jace Jessen would come up with a senior day pin to increase the margin to 28-10. It was the first of two pins on the day for Jessen. Adkins and Carr followed with pins of their own to give Park a big 40-10 advantage. The Wolfpack then held on for a 40-25 victory.
The final match of the week, and the home season, was against Henry Sibley. The Wolfpack would again jump out to a big 24-0 lead, but Henry Sibley kept chipping away at that lead. With the heavyweight match remaining, the score had tightened to 39-33. This time Sabin came away with a huge win by fall to ensure a Park victory 45-33. Jubinal, Silvis, Jessen, Adkins, and Carr also won for the Wolfpack.
The final regular season dual for the team is Thursday March 4th at Faribault. The wolfpack will wrestle against Faribault and Rochester John Marshall.
