It came down to the final bout and Park freshman heavyweight Carson Fritsche let out a whoop and the Park bench a collective leap as Fritsche’s dramatic first-period pin lifted the Wolfpack wrestlers past Two Rivers Thursday.

Park held a narrow 33-29 lead over Two Rivers heading into the final match of the night, meaning a fall or technical by the visitors would give them the match. Instead, Fritsche took control early, put his opponent on his back and pinned him in 1:31 to give Park a 39-29 decision.

The Wolfpack won seven of 13 matches against the Two Rivers Warriors, but picked up falls by Nolan Bloch at 121, Ricardo Santos Jr. at 152, second-ranked Zack Carr at 172 and Fritsche. TJ Richardson scored a major decision at 127 pounds and Jesse Wright a technical fall at 215.

“Two good wins, without our full team” said Park head coach Jim LaBrosse. “They wrestled really well against Irondale. They came out -- Irondale is a little depleted today – but we came out with a little fire, and it was good to see. It was good to get a couple of home wins before the end of the year and ti was a crowd pleaser today.

“Our heavyweight is really coming around,” LaBrosse added. “It was fun to watch him seal some deals there and 215 (Jesse Wright) is wrestling better. We were able to bump Carr up today. He’s looking as good as ever. So, yea, it’s coming. It’s coming. We’re working on some things in practice, and the practices are getting better. We’re kind of through the lull part and it’s going to be a little more exciting. Next week (is) team and three weeks from today is state tournament. So, it’s coming fast.”

The Wolfpack pinned Irondale 53-15 in the first round. Two Rivers took a 52-18 decision from Irondale.

Park won 10 of 13 bouts against a depleted Irondale squad, highlighted by pins by TJ Richardson at 126 and Fritsche at heavyweight, and technical falls by Carr and Jackson Van Horn.

Next up for the Wolfpack is the Section 3AAA team wrestling competition, set for Friday with a 4 p.m. start at Woodbury High. The individual Section 3AAA meet will be at St. Thomas Academy on Feb. 21 with a 10 a.m. start.

Lankow third at girls' sections

Park’s Rebekah Lankow finished third at 130 pounds in the Girls Section 3 meet Friday and 6, and Saturday, Feb. 7 at Redwood Valley High School.

Lankow scored an 18-1 technical fall over Abigail Perez Martinez of Two Rivers in the third-place match.

Sophomore Gloria Romero of Park was fifth at 112 pounds.

Park easily pins Amery.

The Wolfpack scarcely had to break a sweat in a 66-10 win over Amery Friday, winning with two falls and eight forfeits.
