$20 million available to fund natural resources projects

Funds from 3M settlement to be released for projects in east metro

Posted

Some $20 million in funds will soon be available through the DNR to fund natural resources projects in South Washington County and the surrounding area.
Included with the $850 million 3M settlement from 2018, the funds to address natural resources projects have been set aside after addressing safe drinking water and will be used to help address the ongoing impact of PFAs released into the environment.
Among those eligible to apply for the funds are local governments, tribal tribes and schools, watershed districts, non-profits, and state and federal agencies. Qualifying projects must meet one or more of three settlement goals, per the DNR.
• Restore, protect, and enhance aquatic and terrestrial resources, wildlife, and habitats.
• Increase understanding of fish tissue contamination, improve communication about PFAS-based fish consumption advisories, and identify and enhance alternative, non-contaminated fishing areas, or
• Improve and enhance outdoor recreational opportunities.
Applicants may apply for no less than $20,000 per project, and no match is required.
Included with eligible entities and have a project you think qualifies?
Requests For Proposals (RFPs) open in February. Send your questions to 3M Priority2@state.mn.us.
