Washington County and the city of Woodbury have partnered to protect land that will expand La Lake Park in the future. The permanent conservation easement to protect 3.23 acres of La Lake is part of the county's Land and Water Legacy Program (LWLP), which partners with willing landowners to preserve open space, water resources, and natural habitats.
Under the agreement, the landowner will continue to live on the property for up to three years. In that time, the city will remove residential buildings and begin restoring the land. Once this restoration is complete the land will then become part of La Lake Park.
A voter approved initiative, the Land and Water Legacy Program helps protect natural areas by purchasing land or land rights, with $20 million invested and more than 1,300 acres conserved thus far. To learn more, visit WashingtonCountyMN.gov/LWLP.
