The Cottage Grove Lions Club will sponsor Breakfast with Santa on Sunday, Dec. 3 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Red Barn VFW off East Point Douglas Road.
Serving up pancakes and scrambled eggs along with sausage and biscuits plus gravy, the Breakfast with Santa at 9260 E. Point Douglas Road will include visits with Santa as well as a chance for door prizes.
Tickets to the event are $12 for adults, $5 for children and free 5 years and under. Funds raised go toward things like the gift programs, Friends in Need, Basic Needs and Youth Connections drop-in center.
“We have been blessed with great community support in our fundraising efforts to benefit families in crisis, food insecurity and the community in general,” Lions representative Doug Rupp shared of the organization. “All funds raised by Lions clubs go back to the community; 100 percent.”
On that note, the Lions will also be partnering with the Friends in Need Food Shelf Holiday Gift program to get Christmas gifts for children and families.
Towards that end, the club donated $1,225 at its November meeting at Carbone’s Cottage Grove, with patrons on the meeting night helping with another $350, making for $1,575 to be matched dollar for dollar by club funds raised through community events.
Do the math, and it means $3,150 for holiday gifts. An additional $1,500 donation is going to a gift program by the Red Barn VFW Post 8752 supporting Beyond the Yellow Ribbon to buy gifts for local military families.
Together with support from Cottage Grove Target, the Cottage Grove Lions Club will be buying and wrapping gifts purchased with these funds to be delivered by Friends in Need and the local Beyond the Yellow Ribbon organization later in the holiday season.
In the meantime, there’s Breakfast with Santa, happening Dec. 3 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Red Barn VFW, in Cottage Grove.
