CG Public Safety issues shelter in place order for domestic disturbance

Cottage Grove Public Safety responded Sunday, April 19 to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 8800 block of 89th Street Street South. The incident, which was contained to one address and not deemed to pose a threat to the public, nonetheless resulted in a shelter in place order for city residents located in the area of Jamaica/90th Street South in the immediate area of the call.
Cottage Grove Public Safety put out an update Monday morning to social media with more information:
“At approximately 7:38 p.m. last night (Sunday, April 19, 2026), Cottage Grove Public Safety responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 8800 block of 89th Street Circle.
Upon arrival, officer established a perimeter and probable cause for a domestic assault arrest after interviewing individuals who had been inside the home. Officers also issued a shelter in place order for surrounding homes out of an abundance of caution.
During the response, officers utilized multiple tools at their disposal to determine the scope of the situation, including air support. After multiple unreliable pings on the suspect individual’s cll phone, it was difficult to determine if this individual was in the home.
Officers deployed a drone and a robot into the home to gain further information about the occupants of the home, while ensuring police safety.
Shortly thereafter, officers entered the home and confirmed the suspected individual was not in the home and had left on foot.
On or around the time officers arrived, it is believed that the suspect fled the residence on foot, likely from the rear of the home.
At this time, there is no known threat to the general public. An arrest warrant is pending a judge’s signature, and this remains an active investigation.

A followup call to Cottage Grove Public Safety Monday night indicated that no arrest had been made.
“No arrest has been made,” the duty sergeant on call said in relation to the incident.
