For the first time, Cottage Grove IAFF Local 2570 Firefighters will be hosting Fire Ops 101, to provide Elected Officials with a unique experience of seeing and performing what Firefighter/Paramedics experience every day. Elected official will participate in live fire scenarios, auto extrication, and emergency medical rescue. Each scenario will give participants a unique hands-on training that will highlight the importance of being a Firefighter/Paramedic in the City of Cottage Grove and how challenging it can be to keep our communities safe.
Fire Ops 101 will take place at Cottage Grove Fire Station and East Metro Training Facility on October 18th, 2025. Elected Officials and policymakers will be introduced to simulations demonstrating fire and emergency medical service operations, from donning the proper protective gear to performing auto extrications and extinguishing fires.
Fire Ops 101, which was designed by the IAFF and is an essential hands-on educational program to give community leaders, elected officials, and policymakers a firsthand understanding of challenges firefighters face in the line of duty. It will provide an immersive experience in real firefighting scenarios, highlight the physical and mental demands of the job, importance of proper staffing, training, and equipment, an strengthen support for fire service and safety initiatives. IAFF is the largest labor representative of firefighters in the United States and Canada.
