The City of Cottage Grove is getting a new Intermediate Water Treatment Plant, located behind the Central Fire Station on 80th Street South. The new water treatment plant paid for with 3M Settlement funds will replace a temporary treatment plant nearby and measure 54,720 square feet. Biod cost for the plant is $90,135,600, Ion exchange resin used for PFAs removal in place of granular activated carbon.
Now under construction after being bid out in March 2025, the plant will treat water from the intermediate and high-pressure zones, otherwise defined as all the city’s water north and east of Highway 61. The plant is being built by Rice Lake Construction Group, with the most recent construction update made to the Cottage Grove Economic Development Authority by City Administrator Jennifer Levitt including insertion of underground plumbing and walls for the Clearwell, along with installation of wall forms for the Backwash Tanks. A high zone raw water main was completed this summer to bring water from a well in the Sunnyhill neigbhborhood.
One of two permanent water treatment plants paid for with 3M funds and bid out in March 2025, the plant is scheduled to be operational in 2028. The other plant, located in South Cottage Grove, has been completed.
