Sandwich lovers and local business supporters flocked to the new Jersey Mikes located at 8800 E. Point Douglas Road in Cottage Grove for their first day open to the public. Despite the disruption caused by the construction just a few blocks away, the store saw plenty of traffic in the first few days of being open.
When owner Mike McGuire opened the location in Hastings just under a year ago, it created a huge buzz on social media, much like it did recently with the Cottage Grove location.
“It had been mind-blowing, just overall comments and the amount of likes and shares that we've been experiencing from people, for weeks just come in saying, ‘Hey, when are you opening’ or pulling on the door trying to get in here. It's been pretty amazing. We're looking forward to being in Cottage Grove,” added McGuire.
For customers new to Jersey Mike’s, when you get there, they will ask you if you want it ‘Mike’s Way’. According to their website, Mike’s Way is: “The authentic sub sandwich, served Mike's Way with onions, lettuce, tomatoes, olive oil blend, red wine vinegar and spices, is what differentiates Jersey Mike's from the others. Authentic means fresh sliced, premium quality meat and cheese.”
Jersey Mike’s bakes their bread fresh each day and they slice the meat for your sandwich right in front of you. They have a hot and cold line for all the different kinds of sandwiches they serve. It is a very large menu packed in a small space, made quickly and fresh right there for you to see.
The restaurant currently employs over 30 people and McGuire was very complimentary of his staff and the Cottage Grove parents saying they did a great job raising great kids and that this has been their best grand opening to date because of his staff.
The staff were amazing to watch. Their efficiency, attention to detail and the interactions with the customers as they walked through the door were spot on. Reports on social media from customers were giving them rave reviews for the great customer service and handling the stresses of an overly busy restaurant with ease. Many people were shocked at how fast they were able to get their food, given the quantity of customers there during peak hours.
