Park senior OT Omot brought home two top-four finishes in the MSHSL state track and field championship Thursday and Saturday.

Omot finished second in the Class AAA boys triple jump Thursday, jumping 46-04.25, just three inches off the 46-07.25 set by event winner Devin Jordan of Eden Prairie.

Omot’s personal best mark of 47-0.25, set in the section finals last week, is the second best mark in Park history. Only R.J. Alowonle’s school record jump of 47-11 is better.

Omot then followed up with a fourth-place finish in the Class AAA boys high jump Saturday afternoon, clearing the bar at 6-5.

Omot said his nerves got the best of him his first two jumps in the triple jump where he fouled. His third jump, however, was on the money.

Heading into the jump, he had one thing on his mind, get on the board.

“Just be. You’re here for a reason. Have fun, that is what it is all about,” Omot said before the third jump. “Not many kids get a chance to be here, and I have a chance so just get on the board and hopefully make it.”

OT made it, and he made it in a big way. His second-place finish earned him All-State honors.

He was thankful to have his coaches there supporting him and his parents watching on the live stream from work.

“It means a lot to be back at the state track meet for a second time,” he explained.

Omot came into the state meet with triple jump of 47-0.25, which ranked second among the Class AAA competitors and a high jump of 6-2, ranked 14th best.

Park senior David Ola-Kazeem came into the Class AAA boys long jump with a best of 22-0.25, which ranked 12th best entering the competition. Ola-Kazeem had a bit of an off day in the finals but still finished 21st in the state with a best jump Saturday of 19-08.00.
