Girls' tennis team opens 2-0
Park opened the 2023 girls' tennis season with a pair of dual meet wins, edging Tartan 4-3 Aug. 22, the topping Hastings 5-2 on Saturday.
Park went 1-3 in singles but swept the doubles to get past Tartan.
Winning for the Wolfpack were Liv Evans-Madi Brinkman 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, Emery Lettner-Camilla Brooks 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles and Noelle Chapek-Madi Dahling 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 doubles. Lauren Osland won the key No. 4 singles match 6-1, 6-2.
Park won three of four singles and two of three doubles to down Hastings.
Boys' soccer squad opens season 1-1
Visiting Rosemount put a 6-0 hurt on the homestanding Park Wolfpack Saturday afternoon in a non-conference boys soccer contest.
The Irish led 2-0 at the break, then added four goals after intermission.
Park opened the 2023 boys' soccer season with a 2-0 win over visiting Bloomington Jefferson Thursday at Park High School.
Tristan Lee and Ayub Mohamed each scored a goal for the Wolfpack, who broke a 0-0 tie at the half with two second-half scores. Mohamed also added an assist.
Goalkeeper Carter Geisen shut out the Jefferson attackers with four saves in the game.
Two games In, no goals, yet no losses. It’s been an interesting – yet not totally unexpected – opening to the 2023 season for the Park Wolfpack girls' soccer team.
Park went through its second straight 0-0 game Saturday at home against visiting Kasson-Mantorville. Park co-head coach Stacy Paleen thought the Wolfpack might have trouble scoring goals early this season and after two games it looks like she might be right.
Park and Bloomington Jefferson battled to a 0-0 tie at the HealthEast Sports Center Thursday in the season opener for the Wolfpack.
Firchau leads Park cross country team
Eli Firchau finished fourth in a time of 18:25.09 to lead the Park boys to a third-place team finish in the Cretin-Derham Hall 5K Invite Thursday at Lake Elmo Park Reserve.
Jack Weir of Pak was 12th in 19:57.73, Cooper Williams 13th in 20:06.09, Jayden Rentz 15th in 20:13.40, Sam Craig was 28th in 21:30.87, Ben Paulsen 35th in 21:56.37, Braden McLoughlin 39th in 22:57.70, Blake Bestler 46th in 24:06.13 and Zach Amundson 59th in 27:50.54.
Chaska won the boys half of the meet with 35 points, followed by St. Paul Como Park, 43; Park, 69; St. Paul Central, 80; and St Paul Humboldt/Open World Learning, 124.
Will Mann was fifth in the boys 3,200-meter race in 10:33.09 and Caden Helseth seventh in 10:35.12.
Kalin Randrup of Park finished 24th in a time of 27:44.58 in the girls 5,000 meters. Allie Devine was 27th in 28:13/69.
Tenley Nelson finished 10th in 19:27.78 in the girls 3,200 meters. Victoria Henderson was 18th in 42:10.33.
