Rudh’s hat trick plus one lifts Park to third at Duluth hockey tourney

Going up north was just the tonic that the Park hockey team needed.

Junior forward Jackson Rudh ripped off a hat trick plus one, scoring four goals to lead the Wolfpack to a third-place finish in the Heritage Holiday Classic. The Wolfpack rained down on Anoka by a 7-0 score at the Essentia Duluth Heritage Sports Center Friday afternoon.

Rudh scored a remarkable three goals in the second period after neither team could score in the first. Park built a 4-0 lead after one, then Rudh added his fourth goal late in the third.

It was by far Park’s biggest win of the season. Also with the win, Park evened its season record at 5-5 overall.

Own Corkish, Brady Nadler and Tommy Lucas scored Park’s three other goals.

Park outshot Anoka by a remarkable 48-10. The Wolfpack had a 14-1 edge in shots in the first period, 18-4 in the second and 16-5 in the third.

Park senior goalie Tate Kelsey got the shutout win.

Gavin Moss connected on three assists for the Wolfpack and Corkish had two. Jake Young also had an assist.

Host Duluth Denfield defeated Cloquet/Esko/Carlston 4-3 to win the tournament title.

Duluth Denfield 3, Park 2

Skating on their home ice, Duluth Denfield built a 3-0 lead, then held off a furious Park rally to score a 3-2 win Thursday in the semifinals in the Duluth Heritage Hockey Tournament.

Denfield (7-3) led 1-0 after two periods and built a 3-0 lead with two goals early in the third. But the Wolfpack rallied behind a pair of power play goals from junior forward Jackson Rudh, the first at the 11 minute mark and then second at 14:20.

Park couldn’t find that game-tying goal in the last few minutes.

Park’s Owen Corkish had two assists and Caden Schwartz one in the game.

Goalie Aidan Miller stopped 24 of 27 Denfield shots.

Park 4, Owatonna 2

Park snapped a tough four-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory over Owatonna in the first round of the Duluth Heritage Hockey Tournament at the Essentia Duluth Heritage Sports Center Wednesday.

After a scoreless first period, Park pushed through three goals in the second period to take a 3-1 lead after two. Gavin Moss had back-to-back goals in the second to get the Wolfpack off and running. Brady Nadler made it a 3-1 Park lead late in the second.

Jackson Rudh capped Park’s scoring with a third period even strength goal at 6:30 in the third.

Moss added two assists in the game, giving him four points on the night. Caden Schwartz also had a pair of assists, while Rudh, Gavin Sand, Tommy Lucas and Adam Friermann had one assist each.

Park goalie Aidan Miller stopped 30 of 32 shots for a .938 success rate.

Park (5-5, 2-2) hosts Roseville (5-4-1, 1-2-1) in a Suburban East Conference contest Thursday at Cottage Grove Ice Arena with a 7:30 p.m. start.
