Park’s top singles player, senior Caleb Swigart, had a strong run in the individual section meet at Two Rivers High School Wednesday before bowing out.
“Caleb had a fantastic tournament by getting to the quarterfinals,” said Park head coach Tony Townsend.
Swigart defeated Ben Larrondo from East Ridge 6-1, 6-3 in the first round, then topped Trent Nelson from Rosemount 6-1, 6-2 in round two.
Swigart then lost to the No. 2 seed from Saint Thomas Academy (Drew Lindstrom) by a score 6-0, 6-1.
“Caleb had an overall record of 10-13 and played every match at No. 1 singles,” said Townsend. “He had a fantastic season.”
Park’s No. 2 singles play, Josh Hess, was not able to play due to a conflict with an AP test.
At No. 1 doubles, Park seniors Noah Holmgren and Tommy Lucas were given the sixth seed and had a first-round bye.
“They faced a really good team from Saint Thomas Academy in the second round and lost this match by a score of 6-2, 6-3,” said Townsend. “Noah and Tommy had a fantastic season playing one doubles for every match. They had an overall record of 15-6 which is remarkable.”
At No. 2 doubles, Park’s Matt Petersen and Ethan Cole won their opening match against Cretin Derham Hall by a score of 7-6, 6-4. They lost in the second round to the fifth seeded Woodbury team by a score of 6-0, 6-2.
“Matt and Ethan were playing some high-level doubles at the end of the season,” said Townsend. “They were 2-2 as a doubles team together this year.”
