Park High senior Bri Hensel, who has carved her name into several spots in the Park High running record books, is finally going to state.

Hensel raced to a time of 11:25.06 to finish second in the girls 3,200-meter run and qualify for the Minnesota state meet Wednesday in the Section 3AA championships at Prior Lake. The first half of the section meet was held at Prior Lake Wednesday. The second half was at Eagan Friday.

Hensel ran a 2:26.84 to qualify for the 800-meter finals, then ran a personal and school record of 2:20.95 to finish third in the 800 section finals. The top two runners in each event automatically advance

Hensel was the only Park athlete to qualify for state, held this season at St. Michael- Albertville High School June 17-19. She broke Marie Borner’s school record in the 800 of 2:21.29 set in 2004. Hensel now holds the school’s fastest 800, and third fastest times in both the 1,600 and the 3,200.

Hensel was joined in the 800 finals by teammate Lydia Best who ran a 2:30.19 to qualify, then ran a 2:35.25 in the finals, finishing eighth. Best also ran a personal best of 5:40.35 to finish 12th in the girls 1,600.

“Lydia improved a lot this season and had a great spring,” said Park coach Brad Narveson.

In the team races, the Park girls were 11th in the 16-team race with 28 points. Prior Lake was the girl team champion with 197.5 points. Eagan was second with 166 and Eastview third with 102.

On the girls’ side Friday, Park’s Kylie Dahm cleared eight feet in the pole vault in a personal record and finished sixth in the finals.
