K-Beauty Experience Medical Spa celebrated its grand opening in Cottage Grove Thursday, Sept. 17, bringing what its owners describe as an authentic Korean approach to beauty and skin care to the community.
Cottage Grove Mayor Myron Bailey joined city officials and members of the Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new business, located at 8599 West Point Douglas Road Suite 400,near the Bulletin License Center and Allina clinic.
Bailey welcomed the business to Cottage Grove and thanked its owners for choosing the city as the place to launch the venture.
“This is really a unique experience,” Bailey said, describing the business as something new for Cottage Grove and potentially the broader region. “Thank you for investing in Cottage Grove.”
K-Beauty Experience is owned by Dr. Chukwunonso Chime and his wife, Vivien. Chime said the couple lives in Woodbury and looked for a location where their concept would stand out rather than enter an already crowded market. Cottage Grove offered what they were looking for.
The concept developed in part from a trip to Korea and the couple’s growing interest in Korean beauty practices. Chime said that as a physician, he wanted to better understand the treatments before recommending them to clients.
“What is this K-Beauty about?” Chime recalled asking before researching the field.
That research eventually led to a partnership with an academy in Seoul accredited by the Korean government. The academy helped develop the spa’s training and services, while K Beauty Experience staff received training in Korea.
Chime said that commitment to training was intended to make sure the services offered in Cottage Grove remained authentically Korean rather than simply adopting the K-Beauty name.
“If you tell people, ‘Why fly to Seoul when you can do it in Cottage Grove?’ you want to be sure that the staff has that knowledge and training that it will get in Seoul,” he said.
The business also uses what Chime described as medical-grade Korean products. The combination of products, training and services is intended to bring an experience modeled after Korean beauty practices to clients in Cottage Grove and the surrounding area.
Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Laurie Levine also welcomed the business on behalf of the chamber, its Women in Business Organization and its newly founded foundation.
“You have such a beautiful space here,” Levine said. “I had the opportunity to come in several weeks ago, hear their story. You need to come in and check it out.”
The ceremony concluded with the owners cutting the ribbon as city and chamber representatives looked on. Bailey said businesses offering something different can not only serve Cottage Grove residents but also attract visitors from outside the community.
