County’s annual spring street sweeping process is underway

Posted

Washington County roads are getting a spring cleaning starting this week, as county crews have begun the annual countywide street sweeping process.
County staff sweep streets early in the morning, well before rush hour. The county urges all residents and motorists to exercise caution if they encounter a sweeping operation. When approaching a sweeping operation, slow down and maintain a safe distance from the sweepers. County operators work diligently to keep the roads debris-free, but the cooperation of the public ensures everyone’s safety.
Street sweeping isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s a vital step in protecting local ecosystems and freshwater resources. By removing leaves, litter, and other debris, the county prevents pollutants from entering storm drains and ultimately ending up in area lakes, ponds, and streams. The debris collected during street sweeping undergoes proper disposal, ensuring minimal impact on the environment.
