Sakaria Osman Ahmed, 32, Burnsville, was charged in Dakota County District Court July 28 with felony murder in the second degree with intent – not premeditated. On Dec. 18, 2021, Eagan police officers responded to a report of a male on the ground shot and possibly dead at a Marathon gas station in Eagan.

According to the complaint, officers arrived at the scene and found an adult male, identified as Faisal Abukar, lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head. Abukar was transported to a hospital, where he died of his injury. It was ruled a homicide after the medical examiner indicated that Abukar died of a single gunshot wound to the head.

A witness at the gas station, Witness #1, stated he drove Abukar to the gas station to meet up with people who were unknown to Witness #1. A sedan met them at the gas station and the passenger of the sedan exited his vehicle and entered the backseat of their vehicle. The passenger and Witness #1 began arguing because the passenger believed Witness #1’s seat was positioned too far back. Witness #1, Abukar, and the passenger exited the vehicle and continued arguing outside between the two cars. The passenger punched Witness #1 in the face and threw him to the ground. The sedan driver, Ahmed, exited the vehicle and joined the other three between the two cars. Ahmed shot Abukar in the head. Witness #1 ran from the scene. He looked back and saw Ahmed pointing the gun at him before running towards a McDonald’s restaurant located across the street.

Witness #1 watched Ahmed and the passenger get back into the sedan and leave the gas station. They parked nearby at a Dominos for a short time. They exited the parking lot and crashed within 100 yards of the scene. Witnesses observed the driver, Ahmed, exit the car holding a gun in his hands and running toward a nearby outlet mall. He was apprehended by police shortly thereafter. The passenger who assaulted Witness #1 was not located.

Surveillance footage confirmed the accident and the altercation. Another witness, Witness #2, was pumping gas at the gas station when the shooting occurred and observed four Somali males talking at the gas station. Witness #2 observed one of the men taking out a black handgun and shooting one of the males in the group.

Ahmed was booked into the Dakota County Jail.
