Girls soccer team breaks through with 2-1 win

Park senior midfielder Alison Lippert scored twice and the Wolfpack stopped a three-game non-winning streak with a 2-1 home field victory over visiting Roseville Monday evening.

“I think we did really well at creating passing lanes and passing through the passing lanes to get shots off,” said Lippert. “I think we still has to work on just keeping the intensity out there all the time, even after goals are scored.”

Lippert scored in the first half, then got the game winner in the second as the Wolfpack got a much-needed win.

“We’ve been really working on our offense and getting them to do the things that we’ve asked them to do and so, and playing a more high-tempo game,” said Park co-head coach Stacy Paleen. “So, they are finally starting to do that. I know people really focus on possession, but we want to get them to make fast decisions, switch the ball, make the runs and they actually started doing that tonight which is the difference.”

Park had 16 shots on goal Monday, much higher than in previous games.

Park junior Josie Leonard got the win in goal for the Wolfpack, which helped assistant coach Scott Leonard celebrate a birthday.

“Obviously Allie Lippert was huge, scoring two goals,” said Park co-head coach Abby Kirsch. “Ava Reckinger always does a great job in the back just kind of walking everything down and we had a couple of girls really step up in the midfield, Gabby Faletti, Krya Stoffer had some great through balls that ended up with assists, so that’s always great to see, too.”

“I think we did well on possessing the ball and we definitely played faster and more intense this game,” said Park defender Reckinger. “And we finally scored two goals so that’s what we did better. Tonight, I just feel like we were just more intense and we were ready to go right away. That’s what I feel like was different than other games. We were just ready tonight.”

Park slipped to 1-1-2 on the season after a 2-1 loss at Apple Valley Sept. 5.

Park suffered a second straight tough loss in girls' soccer Thursday, falling to host Mounds View 2-0.

On Saturday, Park played Tartan to a 0-0 tie, the Wolfpack’s third scoreless tie of the season.

Park (2-2-3) plays at East Ridge (4-1-1) Wednesday starting at 7 p.m., then hosts Eastview in a non-conference contest on Saturday, starting at 5 p.m.
