Meeting at the Grey Cloud Town Hall Dec. 19, the Grey Cloud Plan Commission recommended denial of a 2025 administrative permit and related non-conforming use request from Holcim to the Grey Cloud Town Board. A variance request from Holcim sought to have mining permitted 200 feet from residents’ homes, rather than a 500 feet setback as allowed for at present. The Grey Cloud Plan Commission spent over two hours hearing from the applicant and others before making its recommendation to the town board, several points of law bearing upon the matter. Above, Grey Cloud Plan Commission Chair Eduardo Valencia (center) listens to township attorney David Snyder prior to voting, with Plan Commission member Jake Jones (left) abstaining from the vote due to being newly minted on the Board of Supervisors. The matter will now be taken up by the Grey Cloud Town Board, scheduled to meet Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. A public comment meeting for the Holcim EAW on a possible Larson Quarry pit expansion is due to take place 4-5 p.m. Jan. 9 at the Grey Cloud Town Hall.
