Look around and you will likely see someone that has faced a tragedy in their life, yet you may never know it. Yet, Sheletta Brundidge is not afraid to talk about the tragedy that her family went through. Brundidge uses her personal tragedy to educate others about the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning by helping deliver CO detectors to families in need. Recently, she was on the TV show “The Doctors” where she was given not one, but two surprises.

The first surprise came when the host told her that she would be receiving 100 CO detectors from First Alert to help her with her cause of educating and helping protect families. The second surprise was presented to her moments later. Here is the press release from Hy-Vee.

monoxide poisoning. Since then, she has used her voice, her platform and her influence to educate others about the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning and the importance of having a carbon monoxide detector. After learning how many families in her community couldn’t afford a carbon monoxide detector, Sheletta set out to provide carbon monoxide detectors, free of charge.

Although Sheletta is a familiar face at the Cottage Grove Hy-Vee store, it wasn’t until the producers of the talk show “The Doctors” approached the company in February regarding her upcoming appearance – about her mission to help others and provide free carbon monoxide detectors – that Hy-Vee learned of her story. In collaboration with show producers, Hy-Vee decided to surprise the mother of four, including three children with special needs, and give her and her family free groceries for a year.

“Sheletta is a true inspiration and an example of how one person can make a big difference in their community and the world,” said Tina Potthoff, senior vice president of communications at Hy-Vee. “We are humbled by her story. Providing her with groceries is the least we can do so she can continue to pursue her mission while taking care of her family.”
