K9 Officer Gunnar has retired. The Polish-born police dog began service with the department on Jan. 1, 2016, and logged 323 police calls for service over his tenure, along with 2,346 training hours.
Paired to Sgt. Nils Torning, K9 Gunnar took park in 42 public demos over his career, following narcotics training with the St. Paul Police Department. K9 Gunnar was recently given an official send off by dispatch, with text below.
“Cottage Grove 811 and K9 Gunnar from dispatch on car to car,” dispatch began, then proceeding. “After seven years of exemplary service to the City of Cottage Grove. K9 Gunnar is going 10-7 for the last time. Thank you, K9 Gunnar, for keeping your officers and citizens safe, alongside your handler and best friend Sergeant Torning. Congratulations and we wish you a happy retirement with lots of treats.”
