The Washington County Historical Society is excited to announce a free talk about the French Fur Trade in Minnesota by Greg Cash on Wednesday, June 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the Washington County Heritage Center. The Washington County Heritage Center is located at 1862 South Greeley Street, Stillwater, MN 55082.
Greg Cash is a member of the French American Heritage Foundation of Minnesota. In his talk, Greg will discuss the French Fur Trade in Minnesota from the arrival of Médard Chouart des Groseilliers and Pierre Esprit Radisson in Minnesota in the mid-1600s to the establishment of la Compagnie de la Baie d’Hudson (Hudson’s Bay Company) in 1670 and la Compagnie Nord-Ouest (Northwest Company) in 1789 to the building of Fort Snelling and creation of the Indian agency to control the region’s fur trade in the early 1800s and the establishment of the American Fur Company which controlled regional trading in furs by 1823.
Greg Cash is an executive in the medical device industry. He is of French and French-Canadian descent. In addition to being on the French American Heritage Foundation of Minnesota board of directors, Greg is also a member of the Concordia Language Villages National Advisory Council and is a staff member at their Lac du Bois and Les Voyageurs programs. He holds a B.A. in International Marketing and Business Administration from the College of St. Thomas and speaks French, Italian and German.
The Washington County Heritage Center will be open at 6pm for event attendees to experience the museum at a discounted rate prior to the event at 7pm. The program will also be available virtually on Zoom. Please visit wchsmn.org/events to register.
