Washington County Library is offering online programs for residents to enjoy at home. Registration is required so participants may receive the link to join virtually.

In addition to featured events, most book clubs have transitioned to virtual or outdoor meetings. Storytimes premiere on the library Facebook page every Tuesday and Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

Story Stroll at Oakdale Discovery Center, through Monday, Nov. 16 A story stroll will be featured at the Oakdale Discovery Center, 4444 Hadley Ave. N., in Oakdale. The title this month is “Ten Pigs” by Derek Anderson. Walk and read along to complete the story. All ages are welcome. No registration required.

Family Legal Advice Clinic, 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3 The Washington County Law Library provides monthly Family Legal Advice Clinics. Get a free half-hour consultation with a local volunteer attorney covering a range of topics, such as marriage dissolution, child support, domestic abuse, paternity issues, child custody, visitation, spousal maintenance, name change, etc. All Legal Advice Clinics are over the telephone. Criminal Legal Advice Clinic, 10 a.m.- noon. Wednesday, Nov. 4 The Washington County Law Library provides weekly Criminal Legal Advice Clinics. Get a free half-hour consultation with a local volunteer attorney covering a range of topics including traffic tickets, criminal process, criminal expungement, and DANCO orders. Virtual Family Craft Night: Glove Monsters, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5 Join for a virtual family craft night making Glove Monsters out of stretchy gloves. Register for each person who would like to make a project, pick up materials from the Oakdale Library, and join library staff for an online meeting to learn how to make it. This program is intended for adults, teens, and older children who want to work on craft projects together. Participants will need to have a basic knowledge of hand sewing. Virtual: FamilyMeans Memory Café, 2-3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5 FamilyMeans Virtual Memory Café is a welcoming place for those with memory loss and their caregivers. Meet new people, connect with others for support and laughter, and learn about community resources. Virtual: Intro to Genealogy, 2-3:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12 Join us virtually for an introduction to genealogy with Jay Fonkert. Learn to access census, naturalization, and vital records. Get tips for finding home-country origins and connecting with local or state genealogy societies. Fonkert is a past president of the Minnesota Genealogical Society and a professional researcher with experience in Midwest, Dutch, English, Swedish and Norwegian research. Virtual: Conversations on Death & Dying: Death Cafe, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14 This online meeting will be hosted by the St. Croix Valley Death Cafe. A Death Cafe is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives, or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief counselling session. Virtual: Finding Your Ancestors: Genealogy 101, 2 p.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17 Do you want to trace your ancestors? Join us online for an introduction to internet genealogy, featuring Ancestry Library Edition. This class will provide an overview on popular online genealogy resources and offer tips and tricks to get the most out of your internet research. Registration is required. Oakdale Backyard Event: Fall Scavenger Hunt, 3-4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18 Join us in the backyard at Oakdale Library for some fun games and adventures. Let’s get outside and explore the changing world around us. How many things can you find? Social distancing will be enforced, and masks are requested. For ages 6-12.
