Taking to Facebook to give residents updates on a list of current projects in the city, Cottage Grove Mayor Myron Bailey shared the following on what residents and readers can look forward to in the months and years to come.

In the first place, Pizza Ranch has broken ground next to Muddy Cow, with footings poured and an opening planned for next year at 7855 Harkness Avenue South.

Also in restaurant updates, Bailey reports that Dunkin’Donuts/Baskin Robbins has been having some challenges with the design shown to Dunkin’ Donuts Corporation. Nonetheless, they hope to move forward.

“They are working through the plans to see if they can make it work on the site they purchased – which is across the street from the new Grove 80 Apartments,” he made known to residents. “They are committed to coming to Cottage Grove. I will keep everyone posted.”

As to developments on East Point Douglas Road,Thai Garden is “still on track” to be a new restaurant on a presently empty lot near Sherwin Williams. Bailey said the local family that plans to build and own the restaurant needed more time to finalize the loan for the building.

“They needed some additional time to finalize the loan for the building,” he said of the coming Thai Garden restaurant on East Point Douglas Road.

Also on the list of new developments is a coming “national dental clinic” moving in next to Sport Clips in the Grove Plaza Shopping Center. Bailey didn’t have the name, but promised to keep residents updated.

Also in the news for development in Cottage Grove is a new business in the former Las Margaritas location behind Kohl’s. Purchased by a local family, the plan is for it to be a place where kids can play and learn while adults have a sandwich or non-alcoholic drink.

As to the two apartment buildings moving in behind Kohl’s, Bailey said it was going smoothly.

“They will be opening late in 2023 or early 2024,” he said. “Both apartments are market rate.”

For those in need of an affordable apartment, Bailey also had news: potentially on its way soon.

“There is a planned affordable apartment complex being proposed across from the library,” he shared with residents. “We should know more about the status of this apartment complex in November or December. It is planned to be a Senior Affordable facility. I will say we’ve had multiple companies looking to purchase land and build apartments of various types across the city. More to come on where and what types of buildings,” both market rate and affordable.

As to the business park, it’s booming.

“The business park is booming!” Bailey said. “We have multiple developments happening right now as you drive through – you will see all the construction happening. Building 2 is being completed as part of the North Pointe Project. Renewal is progressing with their expansion, and Leaf Line Labs is moving along with their expansion. There are a few more tenants that are coming in the buildings off of 95th Street near the homes,” he said, promising to keep residents informed. Also in view for the present are five different types of restaurants the city is working with to find good locations, with some independently owned and others corporate. Last but not least, there’s the Shoppes at Cottage View.

“Negotiations are under way for the purchase of the land south of Walmart for our future Shoppes at Cottage View retail and housing development! “ he said.

“I am keeping my fingers crossed that we can get this project over the finish line! It’s going to be and amazing addition to our community!” He shared, promising updates in the future as well.
