Newly renovated sports courts are coming soon to Loveland Park at Newport.
Approved by the Newport Council at its May 15 meeting, the sports court renovation called for tennis, basketball and pickle ball courts.
One tennis court will be removed to make way for the three pickle ball courts.
The courts are the next priority listed in a 2021 parks survey, after modernized playground equipment and a dog park. The first two projects since completed, it’s the sport’s courts turn for attention.
Plans prepared by engineering firm MSA of St. Paul lay out renovation details.
Included in the coming sports court renovation at Loveland Park are a tennis court, basketball court, and three pickle ball courts, the space for pickle ball made by eliminating a tennis court. Plans prepared by MSA call for for an asphalt sports court surface and reinstall of the existing fence, as well as a concrete walkway and a small asphalt parking area with markings near the court. PVC coated chainlink fences would separate the tennis, basketball, and pickle ball courts from one another,
Now out for bid, the project is expected to begin later this summer and be done by fall.
