Sophomore forward Owen Corkish scored a pair of goals and Park romped past host Simley 8-0 to win the championship of the Spartan Turkey Tourney at Veterans Memorial Community Center in Inver Grove Heights Saturday.

Corkish had four goals and an assist in the tournament as Park opened the season 2-0.

The Wolfpack won the opening period against the Spartans 3-0, then outscored a shorthanded Simley squad 4-0 in the second to take a commanding 7-0 lead after two.

Boston Weidner, Tyler Schwartz, Jackson Rudh, Adam Friemann, Adam King and Colton Porter all scored for the Wolfpack.

“I think we came into it knowing that we were going to put up a lot of goals and work hard and not worry about who we were playing and just go out there and play our game, just work together,” said senior forward Tyler Schwartz.

Park’s defense held Simley to just three shots on goal. The Wolfpack had 56 shots on goal, putting in 48 scores.

“I think we need to keep battling out there and not worry about the opponent,” said sophomore defender Caden Schwartz. “Just go out there and battle, talk, work as a team. We got a lot of shots on net, got shots through, forwards were battling, D was battling, we’re just working well together and it’s just working out right now.”

Alex Harden and Aiden Miller combined for the shutout in the net for the Wolfpack.

Park hosts Tartan (0-1) Thursday at Cottage Grove Ice Arena in its season opener, the first of five straight home games for the Wolfpack, including dates with Woodbury (Dec. 10) and East Ridge (Dec. 15).

Said sophomore defender Caden Schwartz, “Dodge County gave us they worked hard,” said head coach Jay Moser. “They’re not a real deep team this year. But they worked hard and they made us earn it. Tonight, Simley is missing a bunch of these varsity guys.”

“Our team speed, we knew that was going to be a strength,” Moser continued. “I thought we were on pucks right away. We supported the puck pretty well for the most part. We have some things we have to work on. But at the end of the day, I thought we were aggressive and we had some intensity that at we at times in the past have lacked.”

Park 5, Dodge County 2

Corkish scored twice and Park won the third period 3-0 to top Dodge County in the Spartan Turkey Tourney at Veterans Memorial Community Center in Inver Grove Heights Friday.

Park and Dodge County were tied at 2-all entering the third period before the Wolfpack dominated the final minutes.

King and Gavin Moss each scored for the Wolfpack as Park built a 2-1 lead after one period.

Dodge County scored once in the second to knot the game at 2-all.

But the final period was all Park. Moss got his second goal of the game on a power play 3:02 into the final period to give the Wolfpack a 3-2 lead. Then Corkish scored at 10:29 and again at 15:57 for the final 502 margin.

Park was 2-for-4 on power plays and outshot Dodge County 44-15.

Jackson Rudh had three assists for the Wolfpack. Brendan Bloedel and Colton Porter added one assist each.

Harden went the distance in the net, stopping 13 of 15 shorts.
