Micek leads Park swim and dive team
Eighth grader Chloe Micek won the 100-yard freestyle in 58.62 and took first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.20) to highlight Park’s swim and dive efforts Thursday against East Ridge at Oltman Middle School.
Park’s team of Chloe Omtvedt, Evelyn Sahli, Micek and Ava Elthon won the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:54.33.
Trying some different events from her normal routine, Grace Sahli was fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (27.40) and fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (6:14.65).
Park was third in the 200-yard medley relay in 2:02.07 (Micek, G. Sahli, E. Sahli, Omtvedt) and had a time of 4:23.48 in the closing 400-yard freestyle relay (Elthon, E. Sahli, Katelyn Norgaard, G. Sahli).
East Ridge won the team competition, 97-76.
Lyla Kopp had a time of 1:25.60 and Elthon went 1:39.42 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Omtvedt finished third in the 100-yard freestyle (1:03.57), Elthon finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:29.62), Melanie Grochow was fourth in the 200-yard IM (3:00.75), Evelyn Sahli was fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:19.00), Lia Boudouris was second in the backstroke (1:28.17).
The Wolfpack are at Forest Lake Thursday then compete in the10-team Simley Invitational on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m.
Firchau, Park boys third at Red Wing
Senior Eli Firchau and the Park boys both finished third Thursday in the annual Red Wing Invitational cross country race.
Firchau was third in a time of 17:14.62 to lead the Wolfpack. In five meets, Firchau has had five top 10 and three top three finishes so far this season.
Park junior Jana Hafiz finished 11th in 21:56.94 to pace the Park girls team.
Henry Joa was 10th (18:0.04) and Ben Paulsen 12th (18:17.63) for the Wolfpack boys. Will Mann finished 21st (18:50.92), Liam Fleming 22nd (18:57.52), Adebare Goodness Agu was 40th (20:17.95) and Samuel Craig 43rd (22:51.59.)
Winona won the boys team title with 56 points. Hastings was second with 58, Park third (68), RAACHE fourth (86), Red Wing fifth (96), East Ridge sixth (113) and Woodbury seventh (196).
After Hafiz’s 11th place finish for the Park girls, Alli Devine was 20th (23:30.94), Myra Albrecht 23rd (23:54.30), Ramsey Nelson 35th (25:02.36), Eva McMorrow 42nd (27:11.35), Natalie Long 43rd (27:17.31) and Esme Edlund 45th (27:45.83).
Winona also won the girls team race, scoring just 38 points. Hastings was second (66), RAACHE third (76), East Ridge fourth (101), Red Wing fifth (102), Park sixth (131) and Woodbury seventh (174).
Park’s boys and girls run in the Simley Invite Saturday, starting at 9:30 a.m.
Volleyball team goes 1-3 in tournament
Park got a much-needed win Saturday, dropping Math & Science Academy two games to one, but struggling in its own tournament, going 1-3.
The Wolfpack fell to St. Agnes (10-25, 17-25), to Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda (10-25, 20-25), topped Math & Science Academy in three tight games (25-23, 21-25, 16-14) then lost to Faribault (19-25, 19-25) in a rematch of on earlier game.
Park (0-4, 2-14-1) plays at Mounds View (1-3, 6-5) Thursday in the penultimate week of the regular season.
Woodbury 3, Park 0
The host Royals swept the visiting Wolfpack in three games Wednesday, winning 25-13, 25-16 and 25-13.
Woodbury improved to 2-2 in the Suburban East Conference and 6-7-1 on the season. Park slipped to 0-4 and 1-11-1.
