Park has talent and depth returning this fall and veteran coach Tony Townsend thinks the Wolfpack can be competitive in the always strong Suburban East Conference.
Park lost just two seniors off last’s year’s team.
“We have a lot of depth coming back, so it’s nice to have that depth” said Townsend, now in his seventh season coaching the Park girls.
Back for the Wolfpack are veterans Grace Townsend at No. 1 singles, Camilla Brooks, Lauren Osland and Chloe Newhouse, and doubles teams of Liv Evans and Madi Brinkman, Keira Brennan and Ava Youngquist and Pasia Pitkanen and Emery Lettner, Noelle Chapek and Madi Darling.
Evans and Brinkman should form a formidable team at No. 1 doubles. “They’re playing really well,” said Townsend.
Park has a lot of competition for the rest of the doubles lineup. “We probably have anywhere from six to eight players going for those last couple of spots on varsity.”
Park also has a record turnout of 49 girls out for tennis.
The Wolfpack lost a tough 4-3 decision to Woodbury in the first round of girls' tennis team sections last fall.
Townsend expects the Suburban East Conference to be very strong again but noted. “We’re going to compete like crazy. I’m very excited.”
In the first two meets of the season, Park edged Hastings 4-3, then lost to Rosemount 5-2 in the Hastings Invitational Friday.
Against Hastings, Park won the top three doubles and the No. 4 singles. Winers for Park were Liv Evans and Madi Brinkman at No,.1 doubles (6-2, 6-3), Keria Brennan and Ava Youngquist at No. 2 doubles (7-6, 6-2), Pasia Pitkanen and Emery Lettner at No. 3 doubles (6-2, 5-7, 6-4) and at Chloe Newhouse at No. 4 singles (5-7, 6-2, 10-8).
Against Rosemount, Park winners were at Lauren Osland at No. 3 singles (6-1, 7-5) and Liv Evans/Madi Brinkman at No. 1 doubles (6-0, 6-1).
