The Pineridge Garden Club, toured the “Fairest Garden” at the Washington County Fairgrounds on Wednesday, August 16. Washington County Master Gardeners were on hand to explain the various gardens and to answer questions. The “Fairest Garden” was created in 1994 as a public space for Master Gardener volunteers to showcase the many varieties of plants that can be grown in Minnesota. In 1995, the Washington County Master Gardeners partnered with the University of Minnesota to test various ways to control plant disease. It grew to become this “garden of gardens” featuring more than a dozen mini gardens including medicinal plants, natives, pollinator attracting plants and a vegetable garden. Look for the QR code at each garden plot - scan the code to view the web page about each garden. The “Fairest Garden” is open during all spring, summer and fall events hosted at the fairgrounds with Master Gardeners on hand to answer questions. The garden is also open daily until dusk.
