Three South Washington County educators have been named as semi-finalists for statewide Teacher of the Year awards.
English teacher MacKenzie Hildahl of East Ridge High, social studies teacher Younna Eiden-Giel of Park High, and Autism Spectrum DisorderD/ SPED teacher Andrea Welvaert of Cottage Grove Middle School are among 25 names picked from an initial 77 statewide.
Do the math, and that’s just under 1/8 of the statewide semi-finals list, or 12 percent— a sure sign of quality education in South Washington County.
With the list to be trimmed next to 10 finalists, current Teacher of the Year Natalia Benjamin will announce her successor at at banquet to be tentatively held May 1 at the Saint Paul River Centre. With a roughly one in eight chance that South Washington County will boast a State Teacher of the Year this year, the odds are looking good—pending the final outcome.
