Wolfpack optimistic for boys LAX season

Park High has several key returners back in the fold for the 2023 Wolfpack lacrosse season, including leading scorer senior midfielder and attacker Brenden Bloedel, senior midfielder Chris Wilson, starting senior goaltender Colton Porter and team captain junior Angelo Cullen.

It’s a veteran group as Bloedel, Wilson, Cullen, Isaac Thompson, Blake Bestler, Jacob Czarnota and Eric-John Ehli each played in all 14 games last season.

Leading the returners is all-conference selection and three-year letter winner Brenden Bloedel, who signed a letter of intent to play lacrosse at Maryville University next season. Bloedel led the team in scoring (36) and assists (13) as a junior and was second on the team in goals (23).

Wilson and Cullen each had 11 goals and five assists last season.

“Our strengths should be our camaraderie,” Foote said. “It’s a really good group of kids with great communication skills, and a pretty solid corps coming up that we’re pretty excited about. I think we’ll have a pretty solid offensive team. Our offense has always been pretty solid. We have a lot of returning started on defense so that should be solid as well.”

On a team loaded with talented seniors, junior Cullen was selected to be a team captain.

“He’s made significant strides since he’s been with us, he’s come a long ways,” said Park co-head coach Gavin Foote.

Senior Logan Leyde has committed to play lacrosse at Carthage College in Wisconsin. Junior Jacob Czarnota should be one of the team’s top defenders this season. One newcomer who is expected to mark his mark is senior Brenden Lee.

Park finished 6-9 last season, including 4-5 in the Suburban East Conference, good for sixth place.

Park topped Two Rivers 16-10 in the Section 3 first round, then lost at St. Thomas Academy 21-5 to finish the season.

Foote sees Stillwater, Irondale, Cretin-Derham Hall and Woodbury all as formidable in the Suburban East Conference this season.

“We’ve got a lot of new kids,” Foote said. “But we’re continuing to grow as a team and get better,” Foote said.

The Park boys team is scheduled to start the season in a game at Hill-Murray on Tuesday, April 18. Park plays at Mounds View in an SEC opener Wednesday, starting at 7 p.m.
