Simley 8, Park 7
When Park’s Noah Atkins scored from 70-yards out while falling down to give Park a 7-4 lead with 9:49 (2-6) at Park (5-6) Saturday.
Instead, the Wolfpack saw the visiting Simley Spartans rally to tie the game in the fourth quarter and then win it a minute, into overtime.
It was a tough loss for the Wolfpack, who have battled injuries and bad bounces the second half of the season after starting 3-1.
It was a rugged, and at times, chippy contest which saw numerous players sent to the sidelines for fouls or injuries, both benches warned and a fight almost breaking out in the second half. There were good moments for Park – scoring four goals while being a man up – and bad ones, such as allowing two goals while being a man up.
“As a team it broke down,” said Park coach Matt Foote. “The fundamentals went out the door and we started taking shots that we shouldn’t have made instead of holding the ball and killing down the time we started giving it up and letting them press our net.
“Eventually we let two goals in on man down and that’s not something you can do when you’re in a position to set up to win,” Foote added.
Juniors Brenden Bloedel scored three goals and Chris Wilson had two to lead the Wolfpack. Park’s Isaac Thompson and Jack Theis each scored a goal.
Shakopee 18, Park 7
Park dropped an 18-7 non-conference contest at Shakopee Monday. The loss left the Wolfpack at 5-8 on the season, the team’s six loss in seven games.
