Four Hastings girls wrestlers headed to state meet

Little Soldier seeks her third state title

The Hastings wrestling program is one of the most respected in Minnesota.
The Hastings girls wrestling team is making sure to hold up its end, as the program has built stronger each year.
Hastings competed at the MSHSL Section meet Friday and Saturday in Redwood Falls, with a full roster of 13 weights at the meet. An impressive 10 of those wrestlers made it to the podium with four qualifying for the MSHSL State Tournament at the Xcel Center Feb. 29-March 2.
State qualifiers are led by senior Skylar Little Soldier, a third time qualifier and two-time state champion at 148. She’s joined by two-time state qualifiers sophomore Ivy Brandenburg at 100 and Annabel Norquist at 130 and junior Amelia Miller at 170.
The top two finishers advance to the state meet. Others from Hastings making the podium were:
Trinity Yates, third place at 106.
Allison Weinzettel, third place at 112.
Grace Gerlach, third place at 136.
Josie Giangiacuomo, fourth place at 155.
Lily Watts, third place at 190.
Maddy Radspinner, fourth place at 235.

Little Soldier dominated her weight class and scored a 10-0 major decision to win the championship match.
Miller won her weight class also, picking up an exciting 6-2 decision.
Brandenburg lost a 10-3 decision in the championship match at her weight class and came back with a 14-0 major decision to secure second place.
Norquist lost in the title match and then claimed her spot at state with a convincing pin in 1:00 in the second place wrestleback.
